SALKANTAY TREK 5 DÍAS
Get ready to live one of the best trekking in the world. Salkantay trek is considered one of the best 25 treks in the world by National Geographic Adventure Travel Magazine. Is one of the best alternatives for the Inca Trail, ending up with a guided visit at the Machu Picchu Citadel. It will be an unforgettable experience.
Mountain Salkantay (6264 meters):
According to some authors the name of this mountain is a contradiction. Salkantay comes from Salga meaning uncivilized or savage and Antay meaning the one which produce cloudscape or avalanches. Usually we put the name “Apu” ahead the name of the mountain, which in Quechua language means “sir” and defines the great mountains which have the meaning of something sacred above the valleys. For exemple “Apu Salcantay” in the Vilcabamba mountain range.
The Nevado Salcantay is the highest in the region of Cusco. With no doubt is magnificent and spectacular in their solitude.
From the Salkantay Pass at 4.600 meters we will have wonderful views of this magnificent Andean giant (if the weather is favorable)
The hiking crosses the Salkantay Pass at 4600 meters, going down through the clouds forest and passing at Llactapata inca ruins.
The Trek: 58km – Difficulty level is medium-high
